For National Day of Prayer, May 6, 2021, Keith Ray, VP of Mission Integration and Development offers "A Prayer from God’s People for All People."
Sovereign God you are both among and above All the nations of the Earth: Be attentive to the cries of our nation today. We ask that the simple message of the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ be the basis of our love for everyone, everywhere, all the time. We ask that our nation would seek unity not in human commonality, but in divine grace.
COVID-19 vaccination is one of the strongest, safest and most effective tools we have to fight this pandemic together. With vaccinations and stringent infection protocols in place, we give associates, residents, and families the confidence that we are doing everything we can to keep them safe and to protect each other.
Beginning, November 15 a COVID-19 and Flu vaccination will be expected for all Christian Horizons associates. This policy update is yet another important step in ensuring our communities are safe places for our associates to work and for residents to live.
With new guidance now in place from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS),Christian Horizons communities are now accepting visitors with several rules, procedures, and protocols in place, as the health and safety of residents, staff, and the community remain our top priority. If a resident is vaccinated, he or she can enjoy some direct contact with their visitors including hugs which has been really wonderful. Read our visitation protocols prior to your visit and check back often for any updates. Contact your local community to schedule a visit appointment in advance.
First started in England, Dementia Cafés go over and beyond a traditional caregiver support group to include a social experience. While typically hosted in actual restaurants or coffee shops, for now we are meeting virtually, once a month. David Troxel, MPH, special guest facilitator, is nationally and internationally known for his work in dementia care and six influential books on his “Best Friends Approach to Dementia Care” co-authored with Virginia Bell. All are welcome – the person with dementia and his or her caregiver. Be among the first ten families to join and receive a free copy of David’s book, A Dignified Life: The Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer’s Care. Join us every 1st Tuesday at 4PM.
From March 1 to February 28, Christian Horizons communities served 3868 residents in all levels of care. Over this period of time, we cared for 670 COVID-19 residents (17.3%) and we experienced 89 COVID-19 resident deaths (2.3%). This pandemic has challenged us all and we want you to know that we are grateful for the support we've received. We’d like to thank residents and their families, our incredible associates who have worked selflessly around the clock to keep residents secure, connected and cared for, local businesses for their generosity and partnership, area churches for their outreach and fellowship, and local communities for their encouragement and donations. Thank you!
As a faith-based, not-for-profit, Christian Horizons’ mission has always been to honor God by delivering a continuum of care. Today, our mission continues. Across Illinois,
Indiana, Iowa and Missouri, our nurses, nursing assistants, associates
and staff are working tirelessly and purposefully to keep our residents safe and well and to ensure that our communities remain sources
of friendship, support, inspiration and Christian values. To date, more than 1500 vaccines have been administered to residents across our ministry and approximately 65% of Christian Horizons associates are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
