Kate Bertram

President & Chief Executive Officer

Kate Bertram, MBA, President and CEO of Christian Horizons, brings nearly two decades of leadership in senior services and older adult living. With a strategic vision, she oversees the organization’s life plan campuses and older adult communities. Kate holds an MBA from Mount Mary University and has served on various industry boards, including the WI Nursing Home Administrator Board, LeadingAge WI, and the National MS Society’s WI Chapter. Known for her expertise in strategic initiatives, collaboration, and vision, Kate is a driving force behind the organization’s success.

Chuck Schmitz

Chief Financial Officer

Chuck Schmitz serves as the Chief Financial Officer and ex officio Board member at Christian Horizons, overseeing the organization’s financial management, reporting, and transparency. With over 25 years of experience in financial oversight across various industries, including legal services, distribution, construction, and healthcare, Chuck brings a wealth of expertise to his role. He holds designations as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) from the state of Missouri. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Chuck actively participates in shaping the long-term mission and short-term goals of Christian Horizons. He resides in St. Charles, Missouri, with his spouse and two children.

Barb Shepard

Chief Human Resources & Compliance Officer

Barb Shepard, our Chief Human Resources & Compliance Officer, brings over 30 years of HR expertise to Christian Horizons. Previously, she served as Executive Vice President, Head of Human Resources at Concordance Academy of Leadership in St. Louis. Barb holds both an MBA and a JD from St. Louis University, and she is a licensed attorney in Missouri. Beyond her professional pursuits, Barb finds joy in spending time with her husband, Greg, and caring for their Weimaraners. She’s drawn to Christian Horizons for its commitment to serving others, aligning with her deeply held faith values.
